Description
This seminar will be streamed live from World Water Week in Stockholm.
Today’s urban water managers are faced with an unprecedented set of issues that call for a different approach to urban water management. These include the urgent changes needed to respond to climate change, population growth, growing resource constraints, and rapidly increasing global urbanisation. Not only are these issues difficult to address, but they are facing us in an environment that is increasingly complex.
Cities all over the world are at the same time competing with each other, trying to offer their inhabitants and businesses the best possible environment. Water as an element in the cityscape can dramatically enhance the qualities and possibilities of a city, including the quality of life of its citizens.
The seminar focuses on the intersection between urban spatial planning and planning for sustainable water systems. The seminar program will involve city planning and design (water as a design element in the city, water for pleasure and well-being...), and interaction with other infrastructure systems (bio-waste, biogas, heating and cooling, IT communication…) and the surrounding land.
City planners, water managers and researchers will highlight the need for and benefits of involving water at an early stage in city planning. Good examples from cities around the world will be demonstrated.
