The Tale of Two Cities -The City of London & New York City's Climate Change Adaptation Processes

3:00 p.m. (GMT) / 10:00 a.m. (EST) 24th February 2010

There is widespread scientific consensus that GHG emissions are leading to rapid & potentially irreversible climate change & cities globally have started to realise the importance of adaptation. This webinar will draw parallels between two of the most prominent cities in the world.

Simon Mills, Head of Sustainability, City of London & Dr Richenda Connell, CTO and co-founder, Acclimatise will discuss the details of developing & implementing the City of London Corporation’s climate adaptation strategy. This is the first adaptation strategy of its kind by a UK local authority, aimed to identify the priority risks associated with climate change. It proposes adaptation measures which are designed to ensure that the City’s infrastructure and services cope under a changing climate.

Radley Horton is the Climate Science Lead for the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) & will describe New York City's Climate Change Adaptation process, & outline key findings of the NPCC. He will also place the NPCC's work in the broader context of the First Assessment Report on Climate Change in Cities (ARC3), a product of the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN).
