The Co-operative Opportunity: How to reboot a sustainable economy

6:00 p.m. (GMT) / 1:00 p.m. (EST) 15th February 2012

The last decade began with a raft of accounting scandals and ended with the financial meltdown of global banking. It's now widely accepted that an economy dominated by shareholder capitalism is not a sustainable economy.

Perhaps it's time other forms of wealth generation and ownership were dusted off and given serious thought, especially as the United Nations has declared 2012 to be the International Year of Co-operatives.

Hear from leading thinkers, including:

  • Jonathon Porritt: Founder Director of Forum for the Future -- the opportunity of community owned energy
  • Noreena Hertz: Leading thinker on co-operative capitalism, economist, author and campaigner.
  • David Sloan Wilson: Biologist and main architect of Multilevel Selection Theory, which demonstrates that group selection and co-operation are very real evolutionary drivers.
  • Barbara Stocking: Chief Executive, Oxfam GB -- how co-operatives can help to feed the world sustainably.
  • Len Wardle: Chair The Co-operative Group -- launching latest iteration of radical new Ethical Plan.

See how The Co-operative, the UK's largest co-operative, will lead the way on social responsibility, with the launch of its latest Ethical Plan.

Meet with the new wave of sustainable and co-operative enterprises in a series of interactive zones.

Place: Benjamin Britten Lounge, 3rd Floor, Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster, SW1P 3EE
