The Carbon Lottery is the world's first voluntary carbon offset platform which allows users to purchase a lottery ticket and offset their carbon footprint simultaneously, standing a chance to win real prizes - up to €4,000,000 for just £2 a ticket.  It is the first ‘green’ lottery of its kind in the world where the proceeds go to underlying community based projects, which are approved and verified to the strictest of standards, such as the Gold Standard and VCS.

The initiative was developed in response to the low take-up of carbon offsetting among businesses and high levels of confusion about the role of offsetting for consumers.  The Carbon Lottery recognizes that in order to change behavior one needs to incentivize the consumer to do so.  The Lottery is a well understood, fun platform that lends itself to promotion online and through social media.
