Dave's 30 Green Miles

I'm putting a new green travel plan into place for Worcestershire NHS in the summer. To promote this and the connection between climate change and health in general, I came up with the idea to run 30 miles to work in conjunction with Living Streets Walk to Work week 2011 on 13th May. So I’d be starting at 2am, running the whole way and doing a full days work. I'm getting sponsored to raise money for the Campaign for Greener Healthcare at the same time.

I do also have an ulterior motive: I'm trying to prove you can be as sustainable as you can and still lead a fulfilling, if not more fulfilling, life than you would otherwise. The idea is that if I've lived minimal or run to work; I can talk on the subject to interested people with first hand knowledge and encourage real changes in behaviour.

Increasingly, I believe sustainability practitioners are going to have to get involved personally as well as professionally to make sure the changes we want to see happen. We all know we need to be collaborative and innovative to create the low-carbon economy we want. I’m doing all I can with every tool I have (including my health) to make sure that message gets out and I’d love to be able to work with as many people as possible to make sure that happens, starting with this.

To get involved, you can sponsor me at http://www.justgiving.com/daves30greenmiles or your organisation can take part in Walk to work week at http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/events. Alternatively if you have a bright idea you’d like to discuss, please get in touch: (author's email)" target="_blank">(author's email) or 01386 502333.

Wish me luck,

Dave
