Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent held a press conference in London on January 11, 2010 to announce the launch of an initiative that could fundamentally transform communications and data networks, including the Internet, and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the information and communications technology industry (ICT). They aim to collaborate with various stakeholder to demonstrate technologies in 5 years that will lead to a 1,000-fold reduction in energy consumption.
