On 8 October 2010, the Mayor of London launched a consultation on London's energy future, a strategy for climate change mitigation and energy for London (draft strategy).
The Mayor wants London to be the "greenest big city in the world" by 2025. This includes a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from London by 60% from 1990 levels by 2025. The draft strategy places particular emphasis on a programme called RE:NEW, which offers free energy efficiency measures to homes in certain parts of London.
