About this group

This Working Group enables problem-solving and knowledge sharing on issues related to sustainable waste management. The Working Group aims to identify strong business cases for effective waste management, showcase best practice case studies. 

Over the coming months, we will focus on the following areas:

Waste Policy – Highlighting progress of the UK’s waste policy review; exploring what the localism agenda means for the waste management sector; International examples of best practice.

Understanding the Industry & New Technologies - Main challenges and opportunities across different issues; How is the electricity market reform affecting the waste industry?; Calculating the carbon budget of waste; Potential for gasification; Anaerobic Digestion Vs Aerobic Digestion; Packaging Directive - an update of the PRN system.

Supply Chain Waste - Exploring what organizations are doing in this area; How leading retailers are achieving Zero Waste; Waste reduction through supply chain innovation.

Zero Waste – Exploring the concept of Zero Waste and whether it can ever really be achieved; Focusing on the role of procurement in achieving Zero Waste.

Waste Management for Local Authorities – Continuing the debate: segregated Vs co-mingled recycling collections? Finding out how recycling can be increased in multi-occupancy buildings.

Construction Waste – Looking at projects such as Halving Waste to Landfill and Designing Waste out of Construction.
