Low Carbon Commercial Real Estate

The built environment accounts for around 47% of CO2 emissions with a significant proportion of this relating purely to the running and operating of existing buildings and their facilities. The Low Carbon Commercial Real Estate group brings together key players in the built environment to enable best practice sharing and innovation to improve the sustainability of the commercial real-estate stock.

Group members include landlords and tenants, legal experts, academics and policy makers from a range of countries and markets across the world.

Some key topics that are currently discussed include specific energy efficiency technologies for different property classes (warehouses, retail outlets etc), climate change adaptation, sustainability portfolio impacts, building certification and landlord / tenant co-operation to improve energy management.

The report foresees such buildings becoming the de-facto standard in Europe over the next 10 years for new and renovated buildings, driven by government regulation.
